To be more precise, the UK uses a “traffic light” system for international travel. And, countries assign as green, amber, and red list for international travels. However, the basis of this system is the current Covid-19 situation in a country. Apparently, the UK kept Pakistan on the red list despite having a lower infection rate than India.

The below is the basis of categorizing a country into any of the lists:

  • Low risk countries enjoys a quarantine-free travel and places easily on green list.
  • Medium risk countries travelers must quarantine for 10 days before any international travel. Also, they place on amber list.
  • High-risk countries places on the red list and travelers coming from there are needed to quarantine in a hotel. Moreover, the UK government manages the hotels where travelers require paying between £450-£800 and £2,200.

Now, the British government places Pakistan on the red list due to a sudden rise in Covid-19 cases in the country on 2 April 2021. On 19 April, India followed Pakistan on the red list due to a much worse COVID-19 situation following the emergence of the Delta variant.

At The End

Since 1 August, Pakistan has reported 4,700 cases each day on average, while India has recorded more than 39,000 cases daily on average. India moves up to the amber list, but the British government chooses to keep Pakistan on the red list. The question has to be asked to the British government.
