The rising number of motorcycle accidents pressured the Sindh government to make and implement this decision.
On 5 May, two motorcycles collided near Karachi’s Native Ketty Bridge resulting in the death of two people. Later on 19 June, a trailer ran over a motorcycle near Karachi’s Northern Bypass. Shockingly, it resulted in the death of a man and his child.
Last year, a man from Karachi filed a petition at Sindh High Court. Moreover, he challenged the law expecting side mirrors on motorcycles. The petitioner told the court that a law exempting side mirrors on motorbikes was passed by the provincial government in 1969, “but riding a motorcycle becomes hazardous without side mirrors.”
The petitioner also pointed out that “Motorists can’t see the vehicles coming from either side and it becomes more difficult when you’re wearing a helmet,” which in turn leads to accidents.
