Hacking WiFi connection is not a hard job now. There are hundreds of Apps available on internet and thousands of working tutorials. Last night, I noticed my internet speed is too slow. I am using 4MB PTCL DSL BroadBand package and its speed is awesome. From last few days, I was facing a slow speed internet. By chance, I checked my wireless network and I was surprised to see there are 2 unknown and unauthorised users/clients using my PTCL WiFi connection. Anyhow I nailed them all and put a high security on my connection. In this article, I will tell you how you can secure PTCL WiFi connection to escape from unauthorized access.

Secure PTCL WiFi network by hiding access point (Basic Security)
Wireless network name SSID is the first access point for hackers to go through. If your WiFi access point or name is unhide then everyone can scan your connection. By hiding your wireless access point, no one can scan your network name and in this sense, they will unable to connect with your network. Follow these steps to hide your PTCL WiFi access point.
- Login into your PTCL Broadband admin panel by entering 192.168.1.1 in the URL bar.
- After the successful login attempt, Clik on Wireless and then Basic tab.
- Now check the box which says “Hide Access Point“.
- It is not enough, You also need to change the SSID (Your Wireless Network Name) for better security layer.
- In the last click on Save/Apply and you are done.
Now scan for wireless connection from a different device. You will not see your network :). If you want to connect a device with your wifi network then you need to add a custom wireless connection from your device by adding SSID name and its security key with security level (WPA/WPA2 – PSK, etc). How to Secure PTCL WiFi Connection by applying MAC filter (Advance Security):
MAC Security Filter is the advance security which only allow specific MAC address to connect the network. There are two options in MAC filter security allow and deny.
Allow Filter: In allow section you will add the MAC addresses which you allowed to access your WiFi connection.
Deny Filter: In deny filter you will add the addresses which you want to block. Bellow is the MAC filter setup guide:
- First Login into your PTCL DSL Modem admin area by entering 192.168.1.1 (without http://) in the URL bar.
- Now it will ask for login details.
- Once you successfully logged in then navigate to Wireless >> MAC Filter.
- If you want to use “Allow” then check the allow filter, Click on add button and add the MAC addresses of the devices which you want to authorize for your WiFi network. You may also like to read How to Configure PTCL DSL Modem – Broadband Settings.
- That’s all now only the added MAC addresses can access your WiFi connection. It is the highest security level provided by PTCL BroadBand Service Providers.
- In the same way, In Deny filter, you will add the MAC addresses of those devices which you didn’t want to use your network.
Tip: How to get your MAC Address:
Getting your MAC address is kinda easy. You need to follow these steps.
- Open Command Prompt or press “Windows+R” a prompt will open type “CMD” and press enter. It will lead you to command Prompt Window.
- In command Prompt window type “ipconfig /all” (without double quotes) and hit enter.
- Under “Wireless LAN Adapter WiFi Connection” you will find your WiFi Physical address which is your MAC address.
